PLKN Beringin Beah Resort Langkawi Siri 5 Kumpulan 1
Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008It’s almost 3 in the morning and I suddenly have the mood to finally post about my NS experience, go figure.I have a feeling this post is going to be VERY long so read at your own risk. Dont say I did’nt warn you.
So I knew that I was chosen to go to NS about August or September??? I can’t really remember. Can’t really say if I was excited or sad, I was prepared cause I had a feeling that I would “kena” haha. After a few more months I found out my camp was Kem Beringin Beach Resort in Langkawi.I was quite happy cause I wanted my camp to be far away from Kelantan, to be in a different environment. Luckily my cousin and a few of my friend’s sibling went for it before so I knew what and what not to bring so my luggage was not that much compared some other people haha. Went to Pengkalan Chepa to register and go on the bus. I saw a lot of Chung Hwa people there. Turned out Eet Ying, Derk Jian and Wei Fong were in the same camp as me. Thank god I wasn’t the only one cause I was pretty nervous. Took us 13+ hours to reach the camp plus the ferry ride, it was pure torture. We had to endure this a few times if you add our CNY holiday. I hate the bus!!! My ass was aching and I was freezing to death everytime.Hate it, hate it, hate it!
Got there and I remember seeing a bunch of Chinese talking and all I could think of is “I’m so dead.” . They have like their own little gang already and I feel like an alien, ha ha. Not to mention the Chinese we speak in Kelantan is quite different. Oh did I mention the participants of my camp are from 3 states: Kedah, Kelantan and Perak. Some of them said I talk like someone from China and someone said it’s more like a Singapore slang. My only response was “Where got????? *blur* “ Luckily I did make some friends later, which I miss a lot right now.
The first week there was terrible. I wanted to cy, I wanted to sleep on my bed, I wanted air cond, I wanted Chinese food, I wanted to go home!!!! There was a few times where I just lay on my bed and emo by myself. We had to wake up so early to exercise and there’s a specific way to fold our “selimut” and arrange our shoes…….haha. Two things I never got use to even after two months in camp, that is bathing cold water in the morning and eating rice for breakfast. I can’t stand freezing water and if I eat too full in the morning I feel like vomiting, eww. By the way for those who worry about washing their own clothes, it’s quite easy and we have dobby service for the clothes by the camp so don’t worry. I think this post is getting way too long so I’ll just try to be short and sweet.
Here’s our timetable from Sunday to Thursday: -
~6.30a.m.-7.30a.m.: PT Pagi (morning exercise)
~7.30a.m.-8.30a.m.: Breakfast ~9.00a.m.-10.30a.m.: Class (We play games, learn about “perkauman” stuff, pilihan raya, etc. It can either be fun or very boring.Depends.)
~10.30a.m.-11.00a.m.: Morning tea
~11.00a.m.-12.30p.m.: Class (continue)
~2.30p.m.- 4.30p.m.: Outdoor activities like rakit, abseiling, flying fox, kawad….
~5.30p.m-6.30p.m.:Riadah (We can hangout at the beach or play sports like volleyball, sepak takraw, collect seashells, futsal, basketball. Some teachers like to join us during this time) ~6.30p.m.-7.30p.m.: Dinner
~ 8 or 9p.m.: We watch random PLKN videos or movies.
My class teachers were Cikgu Wawa, Cikgu Asma and Cikgu Syima. My kompeni’s (Charlie) were Cikgu Hafiz, Cikgu Yat and Pak Long (I forgot his name haha).
That’s pretty much describes what we do on weekdays. Rather monotonous but it can be fun. We’re free during the weekends but sometimes we have some ceramah on the mornings which were boring like hell! On Saturdays we can go to the local fo2 jiao4 hui4 at night. I like going there cause we can meet the Chinese from other camps and eat Chinese food! I also learned a lot about my religion and I’m really a more religious person now than I was before this, that I am truly greatful for. Of course we don’t really do these things only for two months. Sometimes the camp will organinse different activities and “majlis” so we’ll be busy taking part in those stuff. The best thing of my camp is we’re given a lot of freedom. We can ask the teachers to buy KFC and McDonalds for us, we got to go to Underwater World and also shop for two hours before we came back! Haha other camps can only dream about these things. The bad thing was I spent a lot of money! Although the freedom did came with a price, some of the people don’t know to appreciate it and act as if the rules are stupid. There was so many times when the teachers just gave up. So sad…..
As far as I know my camp is the only one that’s so near to the sea. We’re built on the seaside! There’s and like everywhere. The beach is outside the gate. My favourite past time must be watching the wave and the horizon alone and just let my mind drift away with the sound of waves. How peaceful……………….. I would always come out for a walk at night with my friend to enjoy the sea breeze. The view of our camp is so breathtaking. I miss it! Just 2 or 3 more paragrapghs, I swear!
So in a blink of an eye two months just flew past. I cried a little during the Perpisahan, everyone else was crying worse than me. The next day at the jetty when they asked us to divide by states to go on the ferry, I have to be honest and tell you that I cried like a pig! I scared myself, it was so bad that I could’t talk. It got worse when I hugged some of my friends goodbye, oh god don’t even remind me. Eet Ying and Wei Fong was trying to console me but I still couldn’t stop. This continued until I went on the ferry and I cried myself to sleep -_-“ I’ve never experience this before and it wasn’t a nice experience. The friendship the group of us formed during that time was special for me. That’s because we were all in the same boat, we lived together for two months.
I will miss a lot of things like the times we…
- always go to the koperasi to buy drinks during riadah……….
- laying around the dorm talking about everything from comics, music, girls, cars to many other random stuff.
- discussed about our future………
- making fun of people ,which was bad but fun………..
- played congkak, carom and chess(not me) during our free time… - walk around the beach…..
- cooking mee goreng for supper
- eating McD or KFC near mignight…
-listen to songs together…ns really exposed me to a lot of very nice Malay songs le…
-being scared together because of the "ghost" things that happen in our camp, haha……. I don’t want to type out the story here.
-busy writing people’s ji4 nian4 che4 (I have one too!paise la)
There’s so so much more that I fail to recall…………………. The sad thing is I know that I won’t be able to keep in touch with everyone. I’m trying my very best to do that but even if we lose touch one day I hope our memories together stays……….Take care everyone and happy always.
It’s 4 o’clock already and I need to sleep! Please leave some comments la, very hard to see me so hardworking you know? Puji-puji me a little ma.Type so damn long haha…….. I know my skin very thick la -_-“ Just kidding, if you really read the whole post then I thank you a lot for taking the time. Kam sia che che. This post is meant for me to keep so I can read it in the future. I don’t want to forget this experience, it changed my life. Yes I’m serious. Well goodbye for now and I promise the next post won’t be so long!
